Hi, Earl -

I sent this yesterday, but it hasn't turned up on the list yet so it may have
gone astray.

[snip]

You describe your BJ8 - #43007 as being the 'last US BJ8'. It is known that
the last batch (or possibly batches) of Healeys were imported into the Bay
area in CA - most appear to have been BRG with black trim.

[snip]

So technically, is #43007 the 'last BJ8 in the US' - probably not, and for
sure it is not the last US spec. car imported. It is currently believed
that #'s 43017, 43020, and as of recently, 43026, which likely would have
been a home market RHD car, all now reside in the US. As an aside, # 43011
is known to have been destroyed in an off road excursion / fire in
California in 2002.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Here, for the amusement and edification of all, are the despatch dates,
destinations, and colors for the last 30 BJ8s. All the cars currently
recorded in the BJ8 registry prior to these chassis numbers had despatch dates
earlier than the ones given here. If we consider the despatch date as the
date leaving the factory for the USA, then 43007 can legitimately claim to be
the Last BJ8 to the USA. Welcome to the list, Steve, and congratulations on
having such a special Healey!

42995 through 43020 were all BRG with black trim. 43021 was Healey Blue with
blue trim; 43022 and 43023 were both Healey Blue over Ivory White with blue
trim; 43024 was Ivory White with black trim; 43025 was Metallic Golden Beige
with black trim; 43026 was Ivory White with black trim.

43011 was totalled by collision and fire in an off-road mishap as Earl says,
but its former owner tells me that the remains have been bought and the car
possibly will be reconstructed.

Happy Healeying!
