After seeing your car on your site www.healeysix.net
and that it was from Ohio, I got to thinking.
In 1966 at the age of 16, I bought my 1st car, it was
a 1958 BN4 w/6 port head, in ice blue metallic($600.
from a UW student from PA.). I was in high school and
living in Madison, Wisconsin at the time. It was
starting to rust in the usual ways so I "fixed it up"
w/bondo and fiberglass and had it painted in "Corvette
Metallic Silver". The bonnet flew open one day and
wrapped around the windshield so I found a used 3000
bonnet(complete w/bullet holes which I filled w/bondo)
prior to painting and drove it with that. The front
chassis was in very bad condition from rust and my
thrashing, so, about a year and a half latter I
started looking for a newer Healey and found and
bought a 1965 phase II BJ8 in dark brg w/single tail
lights($1,800. off the used car lot of the local Ford
dealer).
I sold that 100/6($300.) to a couple of brothers from
Ohio who were going to drive it back to Ohio and "fix
it up". Soooo... I was just wondering... if any of
this sounds familiar to you, or anyone else on the
list.
I sold the BJ8 in 1971 ($1500.)to someone in Madison
just before I moved to the east coast. I had put 72
spoke Dunlop wheels(bought from JC Whitney at a great
price!) w/wide white letter Goodyears on it and I
rigged up a hybrid rear view mirror made from MGB
parts with an XKE day/nite sliding mirror(similar to
the one described by Marion S. Brantley, Jr. on the
list the other day).
It would be great to know that both of these cars are
still alive.
And BTW Healeys were not easy to find in Wisconsin in
those pre Internet and Hemmings days and I was nearly
the only person in town with one and in high school no
less. Which brings me to one further matter... It was
recently wondered on the list whether or not a certain
natural function (act?) was possible in a Healey and I
can testify that indeed it is. The drivers seat back
must be folded forward.
