I have no personal experience with high-output coils, but I know enough
theory to be dangerous.
An HO coil should have no effect on the primary ignition components (pts.,
condensor, wires). Assuming you increase the spark gaps--the coil will only
develop enough voltage to jump the gap--the greater voltage on the secondary
components (rotor, cap, plug wires) can cause temporary and permanent
breakdown. Once a (probably invisible) path to ground is cut by the greater
voltage the component is likey shot. I have enough trouble getting distributor
caps, rotors and wires to work well with the stock voltage I would expect more
trouble with an HO coil. To do it properly, all the secondary components should
be upgraded to accomodate the increased voltage from the HO coil (again,
assuming you increase the plug gaps to 0.030" or more).
