The "handle and axe" question has been visited before. Back in the '90's
a wealthy buyer bought the very important Bentley "Old Number One" at a much
higher premium than your regular run-of-the-mill quarter million pound vintage
Bentley. He found later that EVERYTHING on the car had been replaced at some
time in its life- frame, engine, body, etc.
The buyer took the seller to court, saying the car was no longer what he
thought he had bought- "Old Number One". The judge, after lengthy
deliberation, ruled that the car was indeed original, declaring that only that
one particular car could have traced that one unique path through history-
ie: the frame was replaced after a documented crash in a race in 1934, then
this happened, then that, etc.etc.
Most vintage cars like Bugattis have had their component parts rearranged.
All part of each unique car's history.

Best regards
Peter
