Alan,
Hammerite is probably the best other than the rustoleum equivalent. Ive 
found the rustoleum is more correct of a silver grey ( hammerite tends to 
have a slightly bluer tint) However, the rustoleum is very hard to control 
the distinctive hammer marks so to say. I feel it will give a heavier 
texture than desired. Ive seen original late E Jag air cans that look like a 
4 year old painted them, with drips and very heavy mottling of the paint. 
Original healey air cleaners ive seen are more straight silver/grey with not 
that much mottling. You can duplicate this by trying test patterns done in 
direct sun ( make that a good hot day) Two good coats should do it, the more 
you spray on ,the heavier the mottling    and it looks too thick by then. Go 
easy, test spray and you should get it right 9 sivery with small mottling 
texture. it dries fast and when done dont forget to oil the mesh
