A handy tool for welding up holes and replicating spot welds is a pair of
plug weld pliers. They are sort of a vise grip with one jaw U shaped and the
other jaw has a copper pad on it. Sandwich the two pieces to be welded and
clamp the U jaw over the hole to be welded and MIG weld the hole thru the U
shaped face. The weld filler doesn't stick to the copper backing plate. You
can also clamp a thick piece of copper to the back of a hole or large tear
in sheet metal and fill weld the repair. The filler metal will not stick to
the copper.
