On second thought, maybe the packing pieces on the clutch and brake master
cylinders are there to keep the mounting flanges from "working through" the
painted surface, and rusting out the mounting surface?

  Subject: Pedals

  Friends,
No Fridays Funny from me this time, but a more serious matter. Am
putting the car together again from the 1001 pieces I got, and stumbled
over the pedal pads. One is a solid aluminium(aluminum) block with 2
bolt holes, which apparently must be bolted to one of the sides of the
lever. The other one has a milled slot at the rear, indicating the pad
has to straddle the lever. Which pad goes where? It also strikes me that
the bolts (HBZ0409 for the brake and HBZ0411 for the clutch) are much
longer than needed and project over the side of the rubber pedal pad.
  Any explanation?

A second problem for me are the Packing Pieces that should be used
somewhere on both the brake and the clutch cylinder. Are they mounted in
the engine area or the foot well area and what is their function?

As usual: many thanks in advance and a pleasant weekend to all of you.
