Actually, there *is* a bit truth in the words if
they're taken from a translated, figurative
perspective.
Case point: My 82 Jaguar. A fine car but always
"just barely" failing its bi-annual smog check. It
costs $600-700 (plus my time away from work taking car
from "test only", repair and back to "test only"
shops) to get through all the hoops to keep the car
registered. All this for a car that's only worth
around $2K. Take a visit to your local charity
donation car collection lot. You'll see alot of mid
'80's Jags and Mercedes where owners were beaten down
by the CA smog check program. If my tires are worn
out around the next time the car needs it's smog check
I'll be done with the car.

Pure bullshit. I'm not aware of any state banning
older cars (I live
in California,
where any such action would likely happen first). In
fact the current
craze is for
the muscle cars of the 60s and 70s ... big engines and
big polluters.
