Interesting that the rotors are still causing problems.

For those of you bursting with indifference as to how i got on in last
weeks Winter trial in my Healey 3000, here goes!; We left the UK at 7 on
Sat, blased through the tunnel and down to Chantilly, north of Paris.
That night we had an auto test in the grounds and played it safe! Unlike
some (Broken wheel, lost reverse!).
Due to French beurocracy 'timing' was not allowed through france! so
quickly improvised Distance regularities and theoretical average speed
(Auto SUDOKU) were introduced. Sunday we started from the Chateau and
went East, through Champagne country, and had our first breakdown, a
defective rotor arm that took half an hour to find! Overnight at
Plombieres-les-Bains, found the Casino,2" of snow overnight! A long days
driving through the Vosges and Jura, over ice clad passes, an autotest
in a snowcovered car park and Montreux, Switzerland at 8pm! Found the
Casino again and my mate found the lap dancing bar!
Next day back into France and our 2nd breakdown, another rotor arm with
different symptoms and another 1/2 hour so cut two controls to get back
on track. In the afternoon, in sight of Mont Blanc, charging failure!
Made it to Aix-les-Bains (Found Casino!)and borrowed an Alternator.
Wednesday, still not charging so turn lights off and plow on through
12.5k Frejus tunnel into Italy, beautiful roads and scenery, timing
restarts and we cut and run into Aqui Terme before it geta dark to try
another alternator, after 3 hrs fiddling find loose warning light
earthing through instrument!
AAAAARRRRGGGGHHH!
could'nt be bothered with Casino, found Grappa bar instead! Very
friendly locals, all cars parked in pedestrianised town square to
delight of locals 'Bella Machina!'.
Nightmare morning over snow clad mountain passes in thick fog with 20'
visibility and 100 feet drops leaves us last for autotest around icy
go-cart circuit! Made it, unlike Lotus Europa on Snow bank! Cut
afternoon short by running south to Italian Riviera and cruising to San
Remo night stop!
Crankshaft pulley now loose and knocking, life's too short to fix! Local
bar.
Finale! Cruise to Monaco and finish on the quay! Dead Last! But we had
fun and finished! Drove the circuit and after ignominy of Prize giving
dinner, no wooden spoon! Went in to Casino and retreated in face of
serious money!
Found English pub instead! Next day lunch in Nice, put car on train and
took 6hr TGV ride to Paris! Fantastic, overnight hotel (to tired for
Moulin
Rouge!) and next day recovered car, would'nt start! Tow around car park
by straight eight Lagonda cured that! And screen broken by gravel!
Could'nt be bothered with paperwork! Straight blast back to Portsmouth.
It was fun, it was hard, you should all do it! Next time it will be by
Jensen though, much more comfortable and, touch wood! Reliable!
