Mark, it's a kind of 'out of the car' test, Ned was doing. You can turn the
generator into a motor and confirm that it will charge when installed.
Ned, are you sure, your generator is polarized?

Why would you want to do that? Its not a starter. Just install it, hook
it up,
and see if it's charging the system.
