I use one for my bike and they are great however, I doubt if it could hold a
hardtop - not because of the weight - but because it would be difficult to
balance.

Even cheaper and looks easier to use.  Maybe one could develop a hard top
hoist with this:

It is only rated for 50 lbs.  How much does a hardtop weigh?  Mine is
pretty light, but it is missing the rear window.
