Hi James,
The overdrive units, although they could be different ratios, are certainly
interchangeable.
Check the alignment of the parts very carefully and try it again.
I always use a spare 3rd motions shaft to check the alignment of the splines
before attempting to install the overdrive.

Subject: trans question

i bought a side shift transmission from a lister, which has a tag that says
bn7 on the top. the old side shifter i took out had a tag that said bn4 on
the top. laboring under the assumption that most of the early overdrives
were
similar, i tried to mate up the bn7 trans to the od i took off the bn4. it
slides in until there is about1/4 to 3/8ths inch left then will no go any
further. i am not about to try to force it. do i have the wrong od for
this
trans or have i done something else wrong. any help will be appreciated.
thanks in advance. healeymanjim
