Paul,

Sounds about right.  You could take the gearbox apart and still have
reusable gaskets now.  I use the stuff on one side of my valve cover for
just this reason.

I used this on the gearbox gaskets on my friends BN1 as we put it  together.

Here's the weird thing (or, it seems weird to me).  We put  the gearbox 
together about a year ago,  haven't filled it with oil or run  it yet.  Yet
after a 
year, the Hylomar is still moist.  Like I just  got it out of the tube.  
Shouldn't this stuff dry, at least a bit?
