Jim,

P.J. Aeckerlin from The Netherlands posted a fix for this February 23, 2006 
or thereabouts.  His email address is j.aeckerlin@tiscali.nl.  It is about 
getting a "positive" contact" between the float arm and the sender housing. 
I had this problem with my BJ7 when I used to drive it regularly.  I'm 
almost completed with a frame off restoration but haven't addressed this 
issue yet.
