Yes , I am as sure as I can be that I released the chain tensioner. The
snapping sound was not regular. First one snap and we started looking at the
plug wires then another, then two and then many. My helper thought it was
coming from the manifold side in the area of #6.
Tomorrow I will drain the sump to see if there is any water there. And take
the valve cover off to see what can be seen. And take compression test on
each cylinder.

Since it is a fresh rebuild don't jump to conclusions on the oil sheen in
the rad. Happens sometimes. If it is a lot of oil that is a different
situation. Are you sure you released the timing chain tensioner. It will
cause a chain slap that sounds like the engine is coming apart. Have you
isolated the sound to a particular location?
