Yep been there and done that, it is not easy but it can be done.  I had
to raise the engine slightly to get it to clear the cross member in the
front.  When reinstalling the after market Pro-race balancer on my
sideshift car I removed the transmission tunnel.  I also ended up
raising the engine as far as it would go which required the
disconnection of the exhaust pipes, air filters as well as the motor
mounts and a few other things that I don't recall since it was a few
years back.   Have plenty of alcoholic beverages on hand for this job if
it is the aftermarket balancer you are swapping out.
