Sincere thanks to all who replied about my BT7 brake pipe project (to
commence this weekend). I have the pipes, a pipe bender, two #14 calipers,
new pads, pins, some Loctite PST 295 thread sealant, etc. all ready.
The dialog on this list and in this thread is fantastic! Great obervations
and hints and kinks from all hands. Much appreciated.

It's true that brake line fittings seal on the flare, but I've been using
Teflon tape on brake fittings and other threaded mating parts on my BJ8 (and
other cars) ever since I had to break the first connection, not to seal the
joint but to make it easier to undo next time. Remember the fun of removing
a seized temp gauge sensor nut on a BJ8? I've never had any problems doing
this.

Teflon tape should not be used on brake line fittings. Teflon is used
for tapered threads on plumbing pipes, to aid sealing and ease of dis-
assembly. Car hydraulic lines seal on the flare, not the threads, so
Teflon is not necessary.
