If you are staying with a generator you would need a 30 amp gauge. If  
you are going to install a alternator you should use a 60 amp gauge.
Because a alternator will put out more than 30 amps and will damage  
the gauge. And if you use a 60 amp gauge on a generator it will not  
put out enough to amperage to make the gauge read.
