Follow-up.

If you use page 113 of Tech-Talk to fix your choke cable you'll wind up
checking your fuel pump. It's page 163.

Subject: Bj8 Choke Problem

Greetings:

I've been experiencing problem pulling enough choke. Able to pull
1/2-3/4 inch or so before feeling hard resistance. Have fiddled around
different times trying to get choke cable adjustment right. No improvement.
Have noticed fraying and also broken strands of choke cable under set screw
in
trunion block.

Today looked more seriously for choke problem.
Started by loosening small cable attachment bolt and removing trunion
block mounting assembly from the firewall. Could see nothing more than the
same fraying of cable as earlier.
Removed choke cable assembly from dash.
Was totally surprised to find three or four strands of curley frayed
choke cable sticking out at end of cable sheath. Location of these frayed
strands were inside the car not visible from the engine side of the firewall
even after trunion block mounting assembly was removed.
The cable strands sticking out in that location caused two problems
actually. Because they were sticking out beyond the sheath the cable
assembly
was prevented from seating properly in its socket on the inside end of the
trunion assembly. And resistance to choke movement was the result of the
curley frayed strands trying to reenter the sheath as the choke was pulled.

The fix: I cut away the frayed strands of cable with Dremel carbide
cutter. Removed cable from its sheath. Following the outline on page 113 of
the Norm Nock Tech Talk book I soldered in a new choke cable located at
bicycle shop. Installed repaired assembly. Adjusted cable and also cables
from trunion block to carb choke levers.
All is well again. Choke travel is normal and the chokes work good as
new.
