MPG or FPG?

Hi Listers

I read the recent discussions about typical mpg and tuning the 2 port
head with interest. I just filled up my 100/6 at the weekend and can
report an average of 20mpg (imperial gallons) over the last 500 miles.
Bearing in mind that the engine has been bored out to 3 litres and
sports a Mk 3 cam, still with the original 2 port head and H4 SUs, I
don't consider that too bad.

There is one other reason for the slightly low mpg figure - I have a
special feedback mechanism in my Healey. Whenever I start to accelerate,
this wonderful sound comes from the rear of the car. This makes my right
foot press hard down to the floor until the roadspeed reaches the
required value - then, the foot eases back. This is why I propose
another measure of performance for the Healeys - Fun per Gallon, or FPG.
This is measured as a percentage and every Healey ever made achieves
100% with ease!!!

Finally, has a great run back from East Devon to Bath last Sunday in
glorious sunshine all the way. I only saw two other classics all weekend
- an MGB GT and a Morgan, who unusually for a Morgan owner had the hood
up. Weather was somewhat good for November in England and it's been
foggy ever since!

Best regards

Paul
