Bob,
Side-to-side play at the rotor should not exceed .006".  Running
dwell variation should not be greater than 1-1/2 degrees.  3/16"
is way too much slop.

We have often talked about the problem of wobble or play or rotational
movement or whatever in the distributor. How much play or movement is
acceptable? Should you not be able to move the rotor button at all, or is
1/16
in' OK or when is too much too much? My button moves about 3/16" at the end
of
the arm.
