Hi David, by "mod" do you mean using a BJ8 inlet to accommodate the 2"
carbs or opening up the earlier inlet from 1.75" to 2" diameter?? On my
inlet manifold I have a thin gasket against the manifold, then a spacer
(about 1/2" thick), then another thin gasket, then the heat shield, then
another thin gasket, then the carb. If you don't use the spacers before
the shield, then the shield fouls a couple of bosses on the front of the
manifold...at least on my car. I use BJ8 carbs (HD8's) on my BT7.
There's something else you'll need to do if this is the same thing
you're doing: The bottom of the rear carb fouls the bodywork of pre-BJ8
cars just beside the brake master cylinder (on LHD cars) so that you'll
need to cut a small notch in the sheet metal to clear the carb. You can
see what I'm talking about if you examine a BJ8 in that same area and
observe the relief that the factory put in just for that purpose. Good
Luck!!
Jack

Hi,

A few questions about inlet manifolds:

1. Does anyone know the difference between AEC862 (100-6) and AEC957
(3000)?
2. How is the heatshield mounted on a BN4/BN7? Is it sandwiched
between two
thin insulation blocks, or is the shield hard up against either the
manifold
or the carbs with just one thick block?
3. What is the thickness of the block or blocks?

I am doing a mod to fit 2" carbs instead of HD6s.

My thanks in advance for the answers.

Regards,
