It is not leather. It looks to me like a piece of Formica with both surfaces
rough. Some kind of hard laminate.

Friends,
today I disassembled both my door checks and noted there was a 
metal-to-metal contact between the bracket and the arm. The Body Service 
Parts List show a "Disc-friction" that should have been installed.
Is this a leather washer and if not, is there somebody out there who can 
tell me what material to use best?
