After I had my tranny rebuilt the O/D initially did not engage, the 
rebuilder, with many years of British car experience, said that the oil 
sometimes needs help getting back to the O/D.  I drained the oil and 
refilled the box with the front end jacked up pretty high.

The O/D worked fine after that.  I have no idea if that is your problem, but 
I always like to try the easy fixes first.
