Mark,
I have used the "normal" thermostats in the 6 cylinder Healeys for many
years, and then learned from Norman Nock about the sleeved design that BMC
originally fitted to the cars. I have been installing these ever since and
they do in fact make quite a difference. The cylinder head design is such
that the sleeve blocks off the bypass port to force more coolant through the
radiator instead of recirculating around in the head.
