Check the simple stuff first, you mentioned the choke, choke can stick on, 
which will make the motor run worse as it warms up and doesn't need the 
choke anymore?

You can push the jets up on the bottom of the carb with your fingers to 
check this.

You said not to mention "Cr*****ed H**d" so am trying to give you other 
options, given what you have described could be a carburation or iginition 
problem too.

Also you may want to pull the plugs, most any car fix it book will have 
pictures of what a plug should look like if the motor is running right or 
wrong (if you don't have that knowledge internalized already).

Oil filter is on the same side as the distributor, could they have knocked a 
wire loose or something when working on the car?
