A thermostat is to assist in warm up as well as to control coolant flow to the
rad If this controller restriction did not exist the coolant would flow
rapidly to rad causing your car o over heat. the radiator requires time o cool
your coolant. the thermostat controls the coolant flow.
If a car is overheating check the exhaust for any restrictions and check the
cam shaft if worn this can lead to overheating. Another area to check is the
pitch of the fan blade, this can cause overheating if too shallow not allowing
enough volume of air to be pulled through the rad.
Re stricter plates are used in race cars travelling at high speeds.
