My first Healey was a BN4 that originally did not come with overdrive. When
I got it it ti had a BT7 engine/overdrive in it.
That car was fast with mild cam enhancement, balanced and bored 40+.
The car was wrecked and I bought a rolling BT7 car that originally came with
overdrive. I swapped out the drive line, suspension  and wire harness, dash
and gauges into the new body. It was not as quick as the old car. The only
difference was the rear end gearing.... same engine, same tranny, same
driver
