Kees,

I am a terrible painter..

But I paid about 30EUR to get it sand blasted, powder coated with a zinc
coat & color. 

If I was to paint it by spray gun, I would pay at least twice the money
here..

I would not recommend powder coating. Use the old fashioned way of 
primer and top coat from a rattle can. Looks much more original, is 
easier to repair in case it gets damaged during assembly and is less 
prone to rust. It is also much cheaper.
