I had a similar sounding problem with my BN4 years ago. It turned out to be fuel
starvation caused by the heat from the engine affecting the fuel feed.

If that is what it is - and your are interested in concours - then you may not
like the solution: we fitted a heat deflector (in essence an piece of bent ally,
but properly made) to keep enough heat away from the fuel line. You might
achieve the same effect by re-routing the fuel feed further from the engine.
