I just tried to replace those bushings on my Side Shift Transmission. =C2=
=A0The tapered pin is supposed to be removed from the transmission side of =
the Bell Housing. =C2=A0The only problem is the pin is soft and the pin mus=
hroomed larger than the hole in the Fork and Shaft. =C2=A0I ended up having=
to drill the pin from the engine side of the Bell Housing. =C2=A0The drill=
drifted which permitted it to exit on the Trans. side of the fork off cent=
er. =C2=A0I than cut the end of the pin flush with the fork I was then able=
to extract the remains of the tapered pin out the engine side of the BH. =
=C2=A0Now that the pin was extracted the easy part should be to remove the =
shaft and install new bushings. =C2=A0Not for me. =C2=A0The shaft was seize=
d in the fork and after carefully trying to hammer it out I determined that=
I was doing unrepairable harm to the shaft. =C2=A0I was able to obtain the=
correct sized tapered pin from ACE Hardware. =C2=A0I believe it was a no. =
02 x 2.00 long tapered pin. =C2=A0I inserted the pin. =C2=A0Filed it smooth=
on the engine side of the fork and and am willing to live with the sloppin=
g bushings. =C2=A0I know this doesn't help but I had to tell someone. =C2=
=A0Wasted two days and ended where I started. =C2=A0No cigar.
If anyone can tell me how to remove the shaft I still have the opportunity =
to do that before attaching the transmission to the engine.
Question? =C2=A0Does anyone know the purpose of the screw in the end of the=
shaft?

I need to replace these on my sideshift transmission. Have it out and bellh=
ousing off but before I damage something is the pin referred to as "taper p=
in" driven out from the transmission side through access hole in mating sur=
face? Any pointers?
Another question, Can the throttle crossshaft bushings be replaced with the=
clutch inplace or is this not obstructing access?
