I had the exact condition with my BN2 until I installed a large bladed "Flex
Fan". I got mine from Summit Racing. I think it is a GM product. The fan
comes in several sizes . I used a 15.25" dia on the 100 that allows unuf
clearance. You do need to install a spacer as the blades are so wide. Amazing
improvement !!!!

I redid mine over 10 years ago with Hylomar on the cork gaskets and white

Here's my story about a cooling solution. I bought my BN2 in '99 and endured
cooling issues until finally solving it in 2007. I had installed a Texas
Cooler with no measureable improvement. I installed a newly rebuilt engine
in 2007 and experienced the same problem. As long as I was driving - moving
at any speed - it kept the temperature okay, but the moment I stopped the
car, whether at a traffic light or worse, in traffic, I could look down and
see the temperature rising. If I was in traffic, it wasn't long before I was
in trouble.
I sent my radiator out to be re-cored high efficiency, or whatever they
called it. When I reinstalled it there was no difference. I then installed
an electric pusher fan in front, but still no difference except that it
seemed to interfere with cooling when driving. The pusher was removed.
After searching the internet for solutions, I came across the Flex-a-lite
site. There were many choices and I don't recall which one I ordered, but
can find out if anyone is interested. I got the fan, removed the Texas
Cooler and had to make two modifications; I had to trim the size down about
1/4" on each blade to clear the water return hose and I had to make an
adapter for the mount. I made the adapter from aluminum to fit over the
engine mount. I might still have the drawing somewhere. They warn no to
alter the fan, but I did anyway. It is important to make the changes the
same to each blade so it stays in balance.
To my delight the cooling issue disappeared. Apparently the flex fan sucked
the air through the radiator like the stock and Texas Cooler couldn't. Very
shortly thereafter I hit the road to Conclave in Burlington with my new
engine and cooling fan. Fingers crossed as Charleston to Burlington and back
is quite a hike. All went well and as expected, I ran into traffic on Rt. 95
going past DC. Came to a full stop and sat there in 95? heat. I was a bit
nervous about that, but to my amazement the water temp never went above 190?
if I remember correctly. In any case, I had no problems at all and ever
since.

I had a K & N air filter on my German car when I took it from KY to Kalifornia.
It did not have the Kalifornia special tax paid sticker on it so I was failed
at the smog test.Rather than spend $350 to get the same thing with a sticker on
it, I reinstalled the OEM system and passed no issue. I asked to be retested
and the results were worse than with the K & N. Interesting what a little
Kalifornia EPA mandated sticker can do: support the politicians ?

Simon, we have been using the rubber and cup washers from the MGB for a long
time now on the two rear covers. You have to use a longer bolt, but it is
very effective for stopping the seep from the center bolt hole.

Not the most helpful topic title but here goes anyhow.........In a 3000:-
There are three so-called "Cover, cylinder side" on the RHS of the engine.
That is to say three little hatches through which one accesses the push rods
etcetc. The generator is mounted on the front one; the breather comes off
the rear one. So....
Mine have always seeped a little oil, nothing much but I decided to sort it
out. I ordered three new cork gaskets and the appropriate washers and seals
for the bolts that hold the covers onto the block. Somewhat to my surprise I
received:
1) 3 little bits of black rubber which resemble sections of rubber
tubing about 6mm long and about 4mm across. They are, it seems, designed to
go under the cover and but up against it to help prevent the outward creep
of oil. The bolts would pass through them and slightly squash them in order
that they fill the space around the bolt. See what I mean?????
2) 3 little flat fibre washers.
Now, it is these latter about whom I am confused. The tops of the covers has
a slightly "dished" area through which the bolts access the block. Into that
dished area go, on my car at least, shaped copper washers that are, I
suppose, designed to take up the slack somehow. But how will a flat fibre
washer cope with a washer in a dished area without being crushed, breaking
and thus rendered useless? Are the fibre washers to go under the copper,
over the copper or instead of it? Or could they be designed to sit between
the rubber and the inside face of the covers? ie they'd be tucked away
inside the covers.
These parts are not in the BMC parts book.
Any ideas?

We care. And, don't get us started on the fact that when the span was
completed, it was defective. I'm not aware of any (proven) corruption,
just the usual bureaucratic inertia and backroom dealing you find
everywhere. There is a lot of obstructionism from greenies, who would
if they could do away with cars and roads altogether (a lot of our roads
are being put on 'diets,' where ato lanes are replaced by bike paths
wide enough to drive a semi through).
To answer your question, Alan, it just goes along with the fact the the
US is no longer a 'can do' nation. We're overextended--militarily,
economically, you name it--and one gets the feeling our citizens are
just hanging in, getting what we can while we can, and aren't interested
in accomplishing 'big things,' or even just fixing what we have. IIRC,
you live in or near China, which has a different model and much more
concentrated political control; it will be interesting to see if that
model works better in the long run (my bet: it won't).
And, while the problems are often national, California gets the bulk of
the heat because we're usually in the forefront of all change, for
better or worse.
Don't worry, we can handle it.

I felt his post, whilst political, certainly revolved around classic cars
and wasn't just some Trump/Sanders rant. I didn't see any profanity
either. He apologized, maybe cut him a teeny weeny bit of slack.
Speaking of California cars and politics - why is it that no one in
California seems to care that the State of California took 24 years to
build the East Bay span of the Bay Bridge... A job that would have taken
only 24 to 36 months in the rest of the US & world? Not a single breath or
sneeze about corruption in California, amazing! Maybe it would be good if
more people did speak up.
