Hi Ed,
My first guess would be that you have installed a bearing which is too high
so that even with the slave cylinder fully retracted and the correct length
push rod (check that you have the correct length push rod as well) the
bearing is still pressing on the clutch.
As you probably know there should be free play on that push rod once the
clutch is installed.
