Prototype for a replica?? It is a pressing, not cast brass or base metal.
Gold plating can be done easily as I understand that the usual 
tin/copper/chrome is applied after enamelling and after the enamelled 
badge has been ground down and polished. It would be easy enough to 
replace the chrome with a gold (coloured) coating.
