The hole looks like one for an old Amp meter or perhaps some kind of 
switch. The standard size for Smiths/Jaeger and nearly all small gauges 
is about 2" or 52mm.
You can just enlarge the hole to 2" from about 1mm above the lower rim 
of the hole (as there is very little room between the holes) and fit an 
additional Smiths gauge or clock that matches the existing gauges, e.g. 
oil temperature, vacuüm, oil level, ambient temperature, seat belt 
reminder etc.
If you have a clear picture of the original gauges I may be able to find 
matching original Smiths gauges/clocks in my famous "boxes of old junk" 
with lots of  NOS/FRU and used stuff.
