FWIW, I've been 'testing' modern synthetics in my BJ8 gearbox, OD and diffe=
rential for 30+ years and over 100K miles. I still use dino oil in the engi=
ne as I only put 4-5K miles/year on it and change it 1/year and I don't thi=
nk the added expense of a syn is worth it, and I would change the oil at le=
ast 1/yr regardless of mileage.=20

Chris,=20

Yes, when the Owners Manual names a recommended type of oil I use it when I=
 still can get it, as this is what they used at the factory and they knew w=
hy they recommended it. Castrol or Penrite or Millers or even others still =
produce the right spec.mineral oil.=20

And these recommended oils kept my classic cars running for 50years plus. S=
o why shall I use different and perhaps ruin my gearbox, engine or rear axl=
e?=20

Sorry I still can=C2=B4t believe modern synthetic oils are tested in Austin=
-Healey engines, gearboxes and rear axles and are formulated to keep modern=
 engines/gearboxes/axles/etc. of a much different design running.=20

For me:=20

No synthetic oils in my classic cars!=20

I like to have crossplies fitted to my classic cars of the 50/60s, but that=
=C2=B4s my personal taste as for me it gives a period driving experience I =
like.=20

I can=C2=B4t get the original paint anymore, so I use modern paint matching=
 the original colour and appearance.=20

Sorry I do not fill in 50 year old air in the tyres (hard to get) and I hav=
e 2bars front and 2bars rear filled in.=20

And yes, I drive my Austin-Healeys, but not daily, as we also have modern c=
ars here to drive in daily madness. Much more confortable by the way and be=
tter suitable to my daily business.=20

Hey Josef,=20
Your criticism and sarcastic posts have finally arced me up to respond.=20
So - if I'm reading your posts - from somewhere back in the 1950's - you do=
n't use anything that isn't in the owners manual, or the driver's handbook?=
=20
"And nothing else"=20
No synthetic oils?=20
No modern tires/ tyres?=20
No modern paint?=20
Is that your point? Nothing that is not in the manuals from 50 plus years a=
go?=20
Tyres? Tires?=20
Seriously?=20
Mk III drivers handbook=20
Radial-ply tyres (Dunlop SP41)=20
Tyres:=20
Size, 5.90 - 15 tubed.=20
Front, 20 lb. /sq. in=20
Rear, 25 lb. /sq. in=20
Maximum performance speeds:=20
increase all pressure by 5 lb./sq.in=20
So that's what you run on your Healey?=20

That's clearly only ok in your book if you use 1966 air. Modern air is clea=
rly not acceptable.=20
Those are your tyres?=20
Dunlop SP41=20
So your tyres are 50 plus years old.=20
http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/dunlop-sp41=20
Seriously?=20
You whinge about this list every couple of years, because it's not technica=
l enough for you.=20
And yet you advocate not using oil designed or manufactured in the past 15 =
years?=20
So you run 50 plus year old tyres?=20
So why don't you write us a technical article advocating how oil/ tires/ ty=
res/ batteries/ etc have not changed /improved a Healey in the past 50 plus=
 years.=20
Do you drive your car Josef?=20
Seriously. You call yourself into account by criticizing people who use mod=
ern oil etc and drive their cars.=20
Write us a technical article.=20
Seriously.=20
