ps.  The fact there appears to be a thriving aftermarket for SU pump 
replacements (Hardi, etc.), rebuild shops, aftermarket parts and 
solid-state retrofits--including SU's own--tells me I might not be the 
only person who has had issues with these pumps.

Again, I have no idea why except, at 140K miles I've spent a lot of time 
on the road with these pumps, with maybe a dozen failures over the years.
