The obvious, most likely problem is air in the clutch line.  Start with 
a good bloodletting of the clutch circuit. Unfortunately, this is a 
pain, and often gets, uh, 'overlooked' because the bleed screw on the 
slave cylinder is nigh impossible to reach without removing the 
transmission tunnel (or dropping the slave cylinder).  Some of us have 
installed bleeder extensions; this one is from the late Doug Reid--'Mr 
Finespanner'--which is unfortunately NLA (you might get lucky on eBay). 
I bled my clutch once in a Texas Roadhouse parking lot waiting for it to 
open.
