I can attest to that mesh-type filter=E2=80=94from Burgess=E2=80=94being or=
iginal to the BN1 and from what I=E2=80=99ve seen the BN2. Simply wash them=
 in gasoline and then wet with motor oil. Beware however that the metal scr=
eens holding the mesh together can separate over time, as happened to me on=
 my early BN1 with the outer screen. If that happens with the inner screen,=
 the mesh can be sucked into the carburetor. Which is why I switched to K a=
nd N filters but hid them behind the stock perforated screen that goes outs=
ide=C2=A0the filters (MGA versions of these screens will fit but have a dif=
ferent perforation).=C2=A0Early Burgess units are black while later ones=E2=
=80=94on the BN2 perhaps?=E2=80=94appear to be engine color. Hope this help=

I cannot be sure but it looks as if this is fitted with a dry filter elemen=
t. The originals had an oil-wetted element that had to be washed out in par=
affin from time to time and then re-wetted. Rather messy.
I don't have a filter to hand but perhaps the wetted type did not block the=
