OK so I race a dragster and not an LSR car, but at least I'm going in the
right direction, and I will build a liner eventually (I promise) So why did
I pick my car? well my wife would say it was another bout of insanity, I'd
say it was natural progression, I've been involved in motor sports all my
life, first with my late fathers power boats and then racing bikes myself
since school days, I raced anything I could afford (which usually wasn't
much) and even spent two years racing Lambretta's (never thought I'd own up
to that) but my facination since childhood has allways been with Dragracing
and record breaking, I spent many cold miserable days in the British lake
district with my dad, mesmerised by Donald Campbell, unfortunately the
memories of what was a 4 year old child have faded somewhat, but facinated I
still am. In my teenage years when my mates hero's were pop stars or soccer
players, my hero was a certain Don Vesco and his motor cycle stream liners
(TZ 350 ?) I'd search every where for American magazines with any mention of
record breaking. And back to your original question, well I was at a drag
meeting and there was an 8 second altered for sale, so I borrowed the cash
off my good lady and bought it, although I'd raced lots of bikes the fastest
car I'd owned was a VW, boy did I get a shock!!! the first time I drove it I
threw up before putting my helmet on, well better than after I suppose, and
to be honest I don't regret a second of it. Now we're looking at putting 90%
through Chryslers finest and I can't wait, and along with several other
projects I'm slowly getting around to building my liner, quite how that
happened I don't really know, I wanted a Roadster (to be truthfull I wanted
the BMR coupe) but decided on a liner instead, perhaps my wife was right in
the first place!
I don't suppose you really wanted half my life story, but you seem to of got
it. Regards, Paul.
