Hi Doug,
Thanks for the welcome.  About the con rods, there is a difference.
Dimensionally they are the same, but the 327 rods have an additional amount
of material near the "notch" where the rod bolt head is.  That is the weak
point in the 283 rods, and GM beefed it up for the 327.  Every little bit of
strength helps.  Anyway, that's what I've seen.  Maybe the 283 ones I've
seen are early ones.

I've seen your coupe!  It's one of my favorites.
