Another factor in gear efficiency is the surface finish of the gear teeth. A
gear with very precisely ground teeth mating properly with another similar
gear will have better efficiency (and generate less heat & wear) than one
with a rough surface on the teeth. The worst are hobbed gears; the machined
finish on those teeth is much rougher than a gear with teeth that have been
ground.

Since we have been having so much fun with the aero stuff... thought I'd

some things I've heard...
Grib was talking about a prep process for gears that radically reduces
friction to the point Oil coolers aren't required on rear ends in some
cases..
Russ Meeks has some coatings...
Skip has some gear oil additives to reduce friction as well...
what are your guys thoughts on the subject...
