i always thought the best lock washer was a torque wrench, and if very
critical there is always safety wire. lock washers are for keeping
production costs down in my opinion not necessarily for keeping the bolt
coming off under any  condition. there are not too many bolts more highly
stressed than a rod bolt, never saw a lockwasher on one. The design pictured
while interesting only adds 4 more surfaces to break down and lose the
torque on the bolt as the nut is not attached to the top washer as the
animation suggests. the more surfaces you have that might ever so slighly
fret and lose a tiny bit of material the faster the bolt will come loose.
