Ignition

How important is 'puter management of the ignition process, would you say, with 
a heavily boosted engine? I'm thinking it's necessary to do things right, tied 
to the MAP and maybe the wastegate (?)....but I'm having some challenges with 
my deal and a stand alone ignition would be cheaper just now. The ignition I'd 
use would be sophisticated, just independant. Thanks, BJ in Beantown, new to
