Mayf,
I have used both blankets and shields. Personally, I liked the blanket
better. It was a booooger getting it to fit right, but once it was on, I just
got the feeling that I had better protection than with the blanket.

I made a bracket that came off of the rear bottom of the transmission pan
extending to the left, then made another similar but bolted to the front. I
then split open a ten inch piece of large diameter exhaust pipe, and opened it
until it was a ten inch long, "U" shaped trough. I then welded it to the two
brackets so that the shifter arm and linkage rod were all inside that trough.
I then wrapped the blanket around the transmission and the new linkage shield,
and strapped it tight. The blanket never touched any of the linkage, being held
off by the "U" trough.

I'm sure my explanation is clear as mud, so if you think you might want to
try that, let me know, and I'll try to draw a picture and scan it into an email
to you.
