Neil,
The uprights and control arms are compliments of a wrecked Supraformance
Cobra, event though we would like to take credit for them! The rest of the
fabrication is pure Texas B.S. The axles are Ford on one end (uprights) and
Porsche on the other to fit the Speedway rear end, so the CV joints are also
a bastard pair. The Porsche ends were supplied by Sam Shalala of Pro Technik
in Stafford, TX. ( http://www.protechnik.com/index.html ). As I recall, they
fit a 917, but are modified for racing by having extra long grooves, heavy
bells, a thicker body, and longer bolts. Perhaps they say the CV joints fit
a 957, but now I am making stuff up. (If you need real P/Ns, just let me
know or call Sam). Just like everything on the car, they were cheap; just
ask my wife! Our total suspension travel is much less than the CV joints are
designed for. Sam is a heck of a Porsche guy and Motec tuner who has done
work on several local street/race/rods that we are familiar with. The Ford
CV joints came with the salvage parts.
Tonite we welded up all the little voids in the chassis and got the fire
bottles mounted, so construction (as opposed to destruction) is underway. I
hear the block is almost sleeved and we have a plan on the head and head
gasket. Now, there is the little matter of fabricating the intake and
header... pistons, rings, oh - never mind.
Heck, we're almost done! Since we usually work Wednesdays and Sundays,
pictures are often posted the following days. Thanks for the interest.
Oh yeah, that green stuff is called grass, but we are just thankful that
year the cows are all still alive (man, is that another story!).
