Ian,

I am very aware of that book, and that does appear to be one point of view.
However, referencing "The MG Collection, Pre-War Models" by Richard Monk,
under the section on the PA Airline on page 143 it states:

"The PA was available either as as a two of four seater with no saloon
version offered, however a fixed head coupe was offered on the P type
chassis by some specialist coachbuilders such as H. W. Allingham of London,
University Motors (who were main MG agents) and Cresta Motors of Worthing.
By far the most popular of these conversions was that undertaken by H.W.
Allingham and called the Airline Coupe."

Seems obvious enough, but then on the NA Airline section on page 127, it
states:

"Firstly, Allingham produced a body that resurected the previously
fashionable dickey seat and Carbodies had full factory backing for their
Airline Coupe."

The first half of that sentence obviously refers to the "Allingham Coupe",
but the second half seems to pretty clearly refer to the Airline. So which
is it? Is it that Allingham did the P-type Airlines and Carbodies did the
N-type Airline? That seems unlikely.

Perhaps if someone knows or has access to Richard Monk and/or Malcom Green,
we can solve this apparent mystery.

Regards,
Lew Palmer

Good evening Lew,

Looking in Malcolm Green's MG Sports Cars, it looks lik the bodies were
definitely Allingham bodies.

Green states:

"The Airline Coupe was built at the instigation of MG dealer W H Allingham
of
Stanford Place, London W1, but unlike other special bodied cars, these
models
were offered as stock MG products alongside their other catalogued cars."

>From this, I would say that Carbodies would NOT have produced any Airlines.

Included are three great pictures of a blue PA Airline TH 6498, including a
good interior shot, but alas, not showing the interior light.

As for the rear fender reflectors, these would NOT have been fitted
originally, and would certainly detract from the flowing rear lines today.

Good luck with the rebuild and the Airline Register.
