Gene,
   He may be able to reposition the tracks so that the seatback touches
the vertical panel behind the seats. Mine touches there, and the tracks
are positioned as they were intially placed when the car was built. 
  I like my steering wheel fully forward, but one long-legged TD driver
finds it necessary to pull it back a bit to get clearance for his knees.
He says he likes the bent-arm position and describes it as historically
accurate. 
  "Later" TDs had a one-inch pedal extension on the brake and clutch
levers. Early cars's pedals bolted directly to the levers.  Extensions
can be removed to gain a bit more leg room.  If he does that, he should
save or sell those extensions--they are not to be found and many owners
want them.
