Steve,
   A cleaning of the old dirt and grease, followed by an application of
light oil, might solve the problem for you.   In TDs, the spring pushes
the catch down to the position where it can engage in the hole of the
chassis tab, but if the mechanism is sticky the spring may not be pushing
the catch far enough to reach the hole.   When they are clean and oiled,
they work relatively smoothly.
