First, if it is a taper to the hub, it is not original.  Original hubs 
and axles are splined.  That is irrelevant for the problem at hand.  
Usual method to pull a TC axle is to remove the wheel, undo the nuts 
holding the hub to the bearing carrier, replace the knockoff  then 
hammer on the back side of the knockoff ears to remove the axle.
